How does shakespeare communicate his ideas about fate in romeo and Juliet?
Intro Shakespeare communicates fate with plot events, metaphor, prologue, coincidence, premonition. Some quotes ‘He that hath steerage of my course, direct my sail ”
Plot events
A way shakespeare communicates plot events is.When fair john couldn’t get the letter to Romeo because that lead to Juliet taking the poison and she would wake up in 48 hours and Romeo didn’t know so he thought Juliet was dead so Romeo went to Juilet’s tomb and lied next to Juliet then drunk poison what would kill up two 20 men and soon as Romeo drunk the poison Juilet just woke up and she took Romeos gun and shot her self. But if Romeo got the letter it would of been a much different story Romeo would of know that Juliet’s not dead and he could of went down there and go Juliet then they could f been together what they always wanted.
metaphor
Shakespeare uses many metaphors throughout the play, some show how people’s lives are controlled by a higher power and that everything has already been laid out for them. This power is God, we know this because the word He has a capital H. People really only use this when they refer to God.Like it says in the book Romeo is the ship and god is the captain.Shakespeare uses many metaphors throughout the play, some show how people’s lives are controlled by a higher power and that everything has already been laid out for them.”He that hath steerage of my course, direct my sail “. Here, Romeo is saying how he is a ship and that God is the captain and that He is controlling where the ship goes. And its saying that gods guidance hasn’t worked out for Romeo thats why he ended up dead.
Prologue
The prologue communicates prologue in Romeo and Juliet.Because it tells you the main bits of the hole story just in one paragraph.and it tells u whats gonna happen before it happens. For example it says a pair of star cross lovers take there life.So the audience knows that the star cross lovers take there life they do this and it would stop the family fighting. But there only really option is for there family to stop them.so they know whats gonna happen before it happens so its planned out for them.
Coincidence
A way Shakespeare communicates coincidence is.When Romeo comes across capulets servent and learning of the party.Because thats where he meets Juliet and thats what the story Romeo and Juliet.”Perhaps you have learned it without book but i pray can you read any thing you see”.Whats pretty much says to Romeo can u read.Coincidence is the most important thing because thats how he found Juliet with out him finding the servant the story wouldn’t be here.
Premonition
A way Shakespeare communicates premonition is when Juliet has a dreams that Romeo was dead in a tomb. Romeo describes a wonderful dream he had the night before Juliet found him lying dead, but she kissed him, and breathed new life into his body.act 3 scene 5 As says in the book.As one dead in the bottom of a tomb.Either my eyesight fails,or thou look’t pale.Saying this in Juliet’s room.
This explanation of the coincidence involving Friar John not getting the message to Romeo in time is good. What you will now need to do is explain to us how this co-incidence is an example of fate. Don’t forget the Friar John was stopped by a plague – and plagues in those days were considered to be acts of God. This means that it’s not unreasonable to assume that God prevented Friar John from getting the message though. Does this make sense?
